The Urban Program
Vision Statement:
To help ensure sustainable urban
environments, US-AEP works in partnership with leaders in local
governments, business, nongovernmental and community organizations,
and the media to transform the way that cities are managed.
The US-AEP Urban Program focuses on four key areas:
1. Urban Policy and Management
US-AEP reaches out to national and local government decision-makers
(key drivers) to promote best practices in urban policy and
management that help ensure sustainable urban environments, including
- improved environmental regulatory frameworks,
- legislation,
- environmental management techniques (e.g. risk assessment),
- benchmarking and local indicators,
- increased decision-making at local levels, and
- innovative or catalytic activities (e.g. business improvement
districts).
2. Business, Citizen, and Nongovernmental Organization Outreach
US-AEP aims to enhance the role that communities and businesses
play in building a sustainable future by fostering
- increased public awareness of solutions to environmental
problems,
- openness and transparency of government-business-community
relationships,
- models that promote public-private partnerships, and
- participatory decision-making.
3. Municipal Finance/Privatization
US-AEP fosters capacity building in local financial management,
municipal finance, and privatization of municipal infrastructure and
services.
4. Water, Wastewater, Air, and Waste Management (Media-Based
Activity)
To help improve urban environmental conditions, US-AEP supports
networking and urban capacity building around techniques and tools for
addressing specific issues, including air pollution, water pollution,
solid waste, hazardous waste, medical waste, and energy efficiency. |
