Peter
Kimm to Speak at North Carolina Environmental Technologies Conference
and Trade Show
DURHAM, NC, March, 27, 1998--Peter
Kimm, executive director of the United States-Asia Environmental
Partnership (US-AEP), will be the keynote speaker at Expanding
Markets for Environmental Technologies: The Bottom Line, North
Carolinas premiere showcase event for the environmental industry. The
conference and trade show will be held Monday, March 30 and Tuesday,
March 31 at the Omni Hotel in downtown Durham.
During his keynote address, Kimm will discuss export
prospects for North Carolina companies in the Asian environmental
market. Kimm will also highlight US-AEP export promotion resourcessuch
as field representatives, trade leads, and small grantsand cite
examples of North Carolina companies that have benefitted from these
services. For example:
-
US-AEPs Hong Kong representative helped URG
(Chapel Hill) to sell a cyclone sampler to a Hong Kong University.
-
As a result of a trade lead, Gaston County Dyeing
Machine Company (Stanley) sold dyeing machine equipment to Korea.
-
With the assistance of a US-AEP small grant,
Hackney & Sons sold emergency response equipment for hazardous wastes
to Taiwan.
According to Kimm, "Asian governments and industries
are increasingly looking for solutions to environmental problems. The
Asian financial crisis that began last year has caused a slowdown in
Asias industrial growth. Yet, most analysts predict that the regions
historic pattern of export and industrial-led growth will continue into
the next century."
The Bottom Line is jointly sponsored by the North
Carolina Environmental Technologies Consortium, the World Trade Center
North Carolina, and the U.S. Department of Commerce. A special feature
of the program will include procurement sessions with the senior
officials from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
Peter Kimm will speak at 12:00 p.m., Tuesday, March
31. The press is invited to attend.
US-AEP promotes environmentally sound economic growth
in Asia with the assistance of U.S. technology and experience. Launched
as a presidential initiative in 1992, US-AEP is an interagency program
led by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). US-AEP
currently works with governments and industries in ten target Asian
economies.
