Zeeland, MI – A nursing home resident informed an investigator with the state that her leg was broken by a nurse aide. Another resident told he was squeezed by the same nurse aide so firmly that his ribs broke. Several other residents also informed that the aide was really rough and left them with ‘skin tears.’ Other residents say they are so afraid of this aide.
In its reports, the state says the residents were talking regarding ‘Certified Nurse Aide D’ who was working with ‘Providence Christian Healthcare and Rehab Centre in Zeeland (Michigan).
Then there is nurse aide number 13 who, according to witnesses, behaved roughly to a Providence resident. This aide allegedly mocked at the resident by saying that the bruises would not show up on him as he is black. Additionally, the aide called him ‘stupid N-word,’ state reports indicate.
According to state investigators, the aides at the Providence nursing home caused ‘actual harm’ to the residents or put them at the risk of being endangered last year.
However, according to the investigators, the nursing home failed to report any of the alleged mistreatment and abuse. Additionally, the state says the nursing home failed to look into the alleged abuse as well as the unexplained injuries the residents sustained.
The state began its investigation after receiving anonymous tips.
The state investigations left the Providence Christian Healthcare and Rehab Centre as the only one in Ottawa and Kent counties rated on the Medicare website as a far below average facility in both ‘overall’ score and health inspections.
In a recent statement, the nursing home said that rating was based on reports released in year 2013. Now the nursing home is complying with all standards set by the state, the statement says.
