Birmingham Mesothelioma Lawyer
Birmingham was a city with strong presence of railroad, iron and steel industries. Some of the largest steel corporations, including the U.S. Steel Co, were situated in Birmingham. Until the mid-1980s, all these industries used asbestos significantly in their buildings and many of their products and equipment. Decades after the EPA’s regulations on the handling and use of asbestos, many former Birmingham workers are now being diagnosed with mesothelioma and other diseases caused by the inhalation of toxic asbestos fibers.
If you or any of your family members have been diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma or other asbestos-related ailments, you may be eligible to receive significant compensation. We are ready to help you find a capable mesothelioma lawyer who can obtain compensation from asbestos trust funds on behalf of you in just 90 days.
Birmingham Steel Corporation
Birmingham Steel Corp was founded in the 1980s. It employed more than 1500 workers in different locations across the country. Massive quantities of steel compounds were regularly produced at its Birmingham facility. Asbestos was present in the equipment and machinery used to make the compounds. As a result, workers inhaled or ingested large volumes of airborne asbestos particles.
As the business expanded, more workers faced heavy asbestos exposure. Eventually, the government banned the use of asbestos at the factories of the steel company. However, many workers had already been exposed to massive amounts of asbestos fibers by that time.
Alabama Dry Dock and Shipping Company (ADDSCO)
Alabama Dry Dock & Shipping Co was built as a Second World War emergency shipbuilding facility in 1917. Though ADDSCO used large amounts of asbestos, an industrial health survey conducted in 1944 failed to warn employees of its hazards or that massive quantities of asbestos was present at the job site. Consequently, a $1M suit was filed against the company after several years when employees began to develop mesothelioma and other diseases caused by asbestos exposure. Most of the claimants had worked for the company for more than 20 years.
